简介

Akira Goto

(Goto et al, 2003; Goto et al., 2008; Goto et al., 2010; Goto et al., 2018)

After his graduate studies at Nagoya University in Japan and postdoctoral training in Strasbourg, he joined the INSERM (Institut national de la santé et de la recherche médicale) working at the Institut de Biologie Moléculaire et Cellulaire (IBMC) of Centre national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS) in Strasbourg as a permanent senior scientist (2012).

His research projects mainly focus on understanding fundamental molecular mechanisms of innate immune responses using Drosophila melanogaster as a model system. Because of the powerful genetic tools available and more importantly, the high conservation signaling and pathogenesis mechanisms with vertebrates and non-conserved insect specific strategies, Drosophila has now become a useful model for the study of infectious diseases. By delineating the molecular mechanisms of innate signaling pathways and hunting for novel molecules with various screening techniques, his long-term research goal is to contribute to the development of new approaches to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases and inflammation. He has already identified a number of critical molecules involved in different aspects of Drosophila innate immune response (Goto et al, 2003; Goto et al., 2008; Goto et al., 2010; Goto et al., 2018).
